Resilience

Re-sil-ience =
1. The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
2. The ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.
This is the last painting I finished before we buckled down for Helene and then for Milton. At the time, I did not realize the magnitude of it's meaning.
Palms are my favorite thing to paint. They also have a unique way of growing. The life of a palm is in it's core. They do well in the tropics because they can bend and sway in the winds of a hurricane. Their strength is hidden inside.
These recent storms were more than wind and rain for our family. There were also medical emergencies, broken generators, and family crisis. However, in the same way as the palm, my strength comes from my Rock, my Anchor, my God Who is faithful. His strength is hidden inside me. My life force, my joy can't be taken from me by any storm or circumstance. I'm singing in the winds and rain. I'm still singing in the stillness and calm because... He is.
Now that the storms have passed, it's time to pick up where I left off in the art world. At least as best as I can remember where I left off. This painting, "Resilience" is hanging in the show "Tree of Life" at the River's Edge Gallery in Apalachicola, FL. The show runs until November 15th.
